Product Review: Thieves AromaBright Toothpaste

I love DIY dan it’s my personal purpose to practice a minimalist living and less waste. Therefore, I make some of essential products myself. Tapi, making toothpaste is not in my DIY agenda. Why? I have a long story problem with my sensitive teeth, gingivitis plus TMJ disorder yang bikin saya sangat berhati-hari dengan urusan yang terkait gigi dan mulut. I couldn’t just do trial and error dengan bahan-bahan yang biasanya dipakai untuk DIY toothpaste (such as baking soda, charcoal) to check whether they are not too abrasive for my sensitive teeth and gum. Another reason for me not doing DIY toothpaste adalah karena DIY toothpaste most of the time tidak mengandung fluoride. Yes, there are a lot of pros and cons of fluoride tapi saya refer ke penelitian secara akademis yang menyatakan bahwa pasta gigi dengan fluoride is effective in preventing dental carries (mencegah gigi berlubang) – so I’ll stick with fluoride toothpaste, unless…

Thieves AromaBright Toothpaste by Young Living

Ketika saya penasaran to try fluoride free toothpaste ketika ada tawaran special price dari teman. This fluoride free toothpaste yang saya coba adalah Thieves Aroma Bright dari Young Living. Disebutkan bahwa toothpaste ini provides benefit of a deep clean and fresh breath dengan bahan-bahan natural – tanpa synthetic ingredients. It promises its formula to be smooth, gentle, non abrasive for healthy teeth and gum. Toothpaste dalam kemasan tube 113,4 gr ini mengandung beberapa essential oils seperti peppermint, spearmint, clove dan lemon. Here is the list of ingredients:

Water, Calcium carbonate, Cocos nucifera (Coconut) oil, Sodium bicarbonate, Glycerin (Vegetable), Xylitol, Xanthum gum, Mentha piperita (Peppermint) oil, Mentha spicata (Spearmint) leaf oil, Eugenia caryophyllus (Clove) bud oil, Ocotea quixos (Ocotea) leaf oil, Cinnamomum verum (Cinnamon) Bark oil, Citrus limon (Lemon) peel oil, Eucalyptus Radiata leaf oil, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) leaf oil, Stevia rebaudiana leaf extract, Lecithin (Sunflower).

Toothpaste berwarna putih kekuningan ini aroma cengkehnya cukup strong, dengan tekstur berbentuk pasta (dan bukan gel) yang cukup thick. I have used it for about 2 weeks, dan I love how it makes my teeth feel squeaky clean. This toothpaste doesn’t foam seperti pasta gigi yang ada di supermarket – it is natural, no detergent included! I love the tube tho.. kemasan tube dari Aromabright ini ramping, perfect to bring for traveling. Desain tutup fliptopnya bikin gampang mengeluarkan produk tanpa tumpah dan messy di kepala sikat gigi. Most important thing: I don’t experience any negative reaction – gigi dan gusi tidak sakit, tidak berdarah.

However, this toothpaste tastes so bland. Meskipun disebut mengandung peppermint dan spearmint, I can’t taste the mint. Dari review lain, direkomendasikan to always use 1 drop of orange essential oil to this toothpaste before your brush your teeth dengan tujuan untuk bikin pasta gigi ini ada rasanya dan memutihkan gigi but... errrr… I don’t think I will do this karena I worry it may irritate my gum and mouth

Verdict: will I keep using this product? Mengingat harganya yang lumayan, tidak gampang didapat dan tidak mengandung fluoride, I will not use this regularly. Tapi occasionally, untuk ganti-ganti suasana sikat gigi, boleh lah sesekali pakai Thieves Aromabright toothpaste.
